A Look At The World’s Latest Revolutionary Invention
When you stop to think about it, a lot of what we take for granted on a daily basis are actually astounding works of both technology and art. Our lives have improved drastically when compared to around a decade ago where mobile phones were just beginning to raise their head and technology in general was embarking on its world domination. Today, smartphones are commonplace and laptops are just a part of life. Just when you think it could not get anymore digitally driven though, someone somewhere comes up with a mind-blowing invention that is so significant it goes down in history as a pivotal point. Welcome to the world of 3D printing!
Fairly new, you would be forgiven for not knowing exactly what this concept encompasses; only a handful are aware of it and the rest of the population has merely heard the term in passing. How can you 3D print in Sinapore? you wonder.Well, it involves creating an object in layers. It is not out in full force just yet, although many companies around the world are now experimenting with prototypes which can be tested for any issues before they decide to turn to it permanently.
HOW IT WORKS
Of course the technicalities behind it are far more complicated, although the process can be explained in more general terms. Basically, the computer will have a file of the object you need to print; consider this your blueprint if you will. It will show you how the object needs to be built up, as well as what materials are required for which parts. The materials are then acquired and melted, since they are mainly thermoplastic, which stack up layer by layer and harden. Voila!
You must have wondered at some point while reading this, whether you could end up printing whatever you wanted whenever you wanted. Well yes, and no. Remember the files that were mentioned earlier? They come with a cost so you cannot just print it as it is. If you want to 3D print, you will need to purchase the relevant files along with the materials and of course the printer. Other than that, the world is your oyster so go crazy!
There is a very real concern however when considering this concept which is fake products that would make their way into the market. With 3d printing comes a ridiculous amount of freedom and the rules are rather open-ended at the moment. Currently, there needs to be something in place to prevent counterfeit products from spreading before this concept can become established. This would understandably be a concern for designers and of course business owners since they would not want their hard work being replicated so easily! Despite this however, 3d printing is currently one of the most revolutionary inventions in the recent past.
